Meet the

Bolshoi School

We work with culture, education and social responsibility

As the only Brazilian branch of Russia's renowned Bolshoi Theater, the Bolshoi Theater School has been operating since March 15, 2000, in the city of Joinville, Santa Catarina. Our goal is to train dance artists, teaching ballet technique according to the Vaganova methodology, contemporary dance, and complementary disciplines. With students from various Brazilian states and abroad, our institution emphasizes its social commitment by awarding 100% scholarships and benefits to all students after a selection process held annually. We are a private, non-profit institution with legal status, supported by the Joinville City Hall, the Santa Catarina State Government, and the "Friends of the Bolshoi" companies.

Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow

The Bolshoi Theatre is one of the world's leading ballet and opera companies. It is considered a World Heritage Site by the UN and UNESCO. The Bolshoi, which means "great" in Russian, was founded in 1776. Today, it is known as a landmark of Moscow, the capital of Russia. 2011 marked its reopening after a long period of reconstruction and renovation.

Great names such as Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Gorsky, Prokofiev, Grigorovich, Vasiliev projected the Bolshoi Theatre internationally.

Today, with around 1,000 direct employees, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow performs 300 shows a year in several countries, serving as a benchmark for artistic quality and cultural production.

Dancers trained at the Bolshoi Theater School in Brazil have already been part of the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, such as Bruna Gaglianone, Erick Swolkin, Mariana Gomes and Raquel Steglich.

These classes include classical, contemporary, and popular Brazilian dance, taught by Russian and Brazilian instructors, for children and adults of all ages, the Joinville community, and dance enthusiasts nationwide.

    Audience Formation

The audience-building show opens its doors, free of charge, to children, teenagers, and seniors to enjoy dance. This initiative generates an inexhaustible source of culture and reflection, fostering a more dynamic and conscious performance in the world, fostering empathy between artist and audience, and awakening them to the world of performing arts. It gives spectators the opportunity to discover their social and individual roles, which need to be developed.

    Friday with Art

The event is already part of the Bolshoi Theater School's routine in Brazil. Every Friday, special, free programs are organized, benefiting both students and dancers, as well as the public who appreciate this art form. Activities include artistic performances, including dance, theater, music, and lectures.

    Preparatory

The Bolshoi School offers an annual free course for 8-year-old children from Joinville, providing an introduction to classical dance and enabling the development of essential skills. This initiative aims to prepare students for the National Team, increasing their chances of entering the institution's training program the following year. With classes taught by specialized instructors, the course fosters musicality, motor coordination, posture, and discipline, offering a solid foundation for those wishing to pursue a career in dance.
